Demystifying Federal Agency Enforcement and Funding Withdrawal
Federal agency enforcement actions and the potential withdrawal of federal funds can seem daunting for K-12 school attorneys, especially when navigating complex compliance obligations under federal civil rights laws. In light of recent actions by the Trump Administration signaling an intent to withdraw federal funding from schools that fail to comply with the Administration’s interpretation of Title VI and Title IX, it is critical for school attorneys to understand the mechanics of federal agency enforcement actions. In this webinar, Hogan Marren Babbo & Rose attorneys Debbie Osgood and Emily Bothfeld will provide a practical overview of the civil rights enforcement process, from investigation to resolution, including a discussion of when and how federal agencies may pursue the suspension or termination of funds.
Debbie and Emily will dispel common misconceptions, outline key procedural steps, and discuss real-world examples to help attorneys assess risk and determine when specialized legal counsel is needed. Whether advising on proactive compliance or responding to an enforcement action, attendees will gain the knowledge to confidently guide their districts while recognizing the circumstances that may warrant escalation of the matter to specialized counsel.
